Sandy Pawz Dog House February Newsletter
As Valentine’s Day approaches we may ask ourselves “to kiss or not to kiss”; our dogs that is!  This seems to be an ongoing debate among veterinarians.  It is possible to catch a zoonotic disease (transmissible from animals to humans) and it does happen sometimes, but it’s not common or life threatening.  In fact, many veterinarians and professionals in the dog business, myself included, kiss dogs all the time.  My dog C.C. became my dog when she was eight weeks old and I held her up to my face for the first time and she kissed my nose.  I believe it’s a matter of preference.  If you don’t want your dog to kiss you, teach him/her not to.  If you like dog kisses, pucker up!
Tip of the Month
Is your dog so excited to see you when you come home from work that he/she pees?  I call this “Excited Pee” and there is a cure.  When you come home from work, ignore your dog.  Don’t look at or talk to your dog until he/she is completely calm.  Then you can calmly call your dog over to say hello.  It may take a little time, but stick with it.  Eventually excited pee will be a thing of the past.
