Sandy Pawz Dog House March Newsletter

Did you know that New Jersey has passed a law saying that dogs traveling in the car must be restrained?  Hawaii passed a law that says pets cannot sit in your lap when driving.  Other states including Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, and Rhode Island are also adding laws concerning pet restraints in the car.  My bet is California is not far behind.  Even the most well-behaved dog can become a flying missile if you’re in an accident.  Your best bet is to use a harness that can be looped into the seatbelt or a crate that can be secured.  This way everyone, two-footed and four-footed can safely ride in the car.
Tip of the Month
It has recently come to our attention that a few of the local dog parks have been infected with a parasite called Giardia.  Since a lot of people have never heard of Giardia, we wanted to give you some information about it so you know what to look for and what to do for it.  The symptoms that you will most likely notice in your pet will be diarrhea, gas, and vomitting.  Giardia is spread through contact with infected feces, rolling and playing in contaminated soil, and drinking water from a contaminated body of water.  It is possible for you to acquire Giardia from your pet, but the risk is small.  If you suspect your pet has Giardia, see your veterinarian as there are currently no over the counter medication that will treat Giardia.  As for the dog parks, Giardia can live in the soil for a relatively short period of time, but it’s a good idea to check with the city the dog park is in to make sure that the dog park fun may resume.

If Feels Like Spring Sale
While the rest of the country has taken a pounding weather-wise this winter, it has felt like Spring in San Diego.  That makes this former East Coaster very happy.  Therefore, we’re having a Feels Like Spring Sale!  Come in during the month of March and we’ll take 10% of all retail items in the store and 30% off Naure’s Farmacy supplements and selected Ruffwear products.  I just hope our sale doesn’t jinx our great weather.
Pet of the Month

Izzy Post is a high energy, bouncing Boston Terrier who comes to us for daycare and an occasional bath.  Even though Izzy is less than ten pounds, she enjoys playing with the big dogs of the group including Stanley and Sophie and she loves throwing her front paws around our necks and giving hugs.
