Sandy Pawz Dog House August 2014 Newsletter

With its long days, Summer is a great time to do outdoor activities with your dog.  The problem is the heat.  It’s easy for dogs to become overheated which can be dangerous.  That’s why Ruff Wear’s Cooling Vest for dogs is a great idea.  You wet it down, put it on your dog, and you’re ready for fun in the sun.  Just remember to keep your dog and yourself hydrated and enoy!
Tip of the Month
Is your dog panting because of the heat, but you just don’t want to get his/her hair cut?  Consider a de-shed.  A de-shed will take the dead, loose hair out of the dog’s coat making the coat less dense, and making the dog much more comortable.
Pet of the Month
Rusty is a Chiweenie that comes to see us for daycare, boarding, and an occasional bath.  He started coming to us for obedience training and he was so scared in the beginning he wouldn’t walk through the doors.  Now he comes running in and heads right for daycare.  His best friend is Oliver the Goldendoodle.
Training Tip…”What Would Sandy Say?”
Did you know that dogs should work for everything?  I’m sure you already know about dogs working for treats, but there’s more.  Dogs should work for anything they want whether it’s a walk outside or attention from you, but it doesn’t have to be complicated.  Simply ask your dog to sit and when he/she does, he/she can have the treat, or go for the walk, or have attention from you.  Just remember, dogs work for everything, always.
What’s New at Sandy Pawz Dog House
Sandy Pawz Dog House would like to introduce Buddy Belts–“The best harness for your best friend”.  Buddy Belts are designed to eliminate strain on the dog’s neck and spine and to prevent damage to the dog’s throat.  The unique design also makes it virtually impossible for the dog to slip out of the harness.  Come on in and check them out.  Buy a Buddy Belt in August and we’ll take 10% off of the retail cost.
